Our Story

HomeBase Apartment Hotel began as a dream and an idea, years before the pandemic of 2020…

The nucleus of this dream and idea began when we looked into the most beautiful cities in the world – Tokyo, Amsterdam, Paris. We saw that what they had in common were the existence of dynamic neighborhoods where businesses and affordable housing intermingled.

We challenged ourselves to do the unconventional. We asked ourselves: how can a space contribute to both the individual – our guests and residents – and to the wider community as a whole?

Initially conceptualized as a co-living space where residents can freely mingle and form a community, the idea for HomeBase eventually evolved into the apartment hotel it is today.

Still, the core idea remains the same: to create a space that can foster connection, comfort, and a sense of belonging – not just for our guests, but for anyone who passes through.

We hope that HomeBase stands as a small but intentional step towards building neighborhoods that are dynamic, inclusive, and enduring.

Our Philosophy and design

Drawing inspiration from Japanese design principles, minimalism influences every aspect of the Homebase experience.

A minimalist lifestyle

For those with an eye for design, you’ll love our simple, minimalist, Japanese aesthetic. We were inspired by both brutalist architecture and Muji, so we made liberal use of polished concrete, birch plywood, polycarbonate sheeting, and real wood blinds. Nearly everything in our rooms are made custom, which makes for incredibly unique spaces.

In creating a minimalist space, we hoped to create a minimalist experience and lifestyle. The small living design of our rooms aims to boil down the wants and needs of residents into those that truly matter. In this setting, we encourage our guests to relax, focus, and be present.

We believe spaces and buildings should ultimately serve the individual and the community. With HomeBase, we hope to offer more than just a place to stay, but a space that inspires rest, focus, and a sense of belonging.

Our take on hospitality

We welcomed our first guests and residents on April 2023. Initially launching on Airbnb, HomeBase has always intended to straddle the line between a hotel and a residence – warmer and more home-y than a hotel but with more services and care than a simple apartment.

Since launching, we have hosted hundreds of guests from many different countries. Some stay with us a night, some for a few months, but regardless, every guest receives our close attention and care.

Just as minimalism aims to simplify and focus on the smaller things, our brand of hospitality aims to excel in the finer details. With thoughtfulness, warmth, and a smile, we welcome you home to HomeBase.
